Shakespeare"s the taming of the shrew contains many of the ideas regarding men and women that were predominant in that time period, ideas that gave men a vast amount of power while giving women practically none. The title of the play itself suggests that it is set in an extremely patriarchal setting where a woman would not only be called a shrew, but she would need to be tamed as well. The relationship between katherine and petruccio can be seen in numerous perspectives depending on how the play is being performed. Katherine could be portrayed as a vicious woman that is a handful giving petruccio a reason to want to change her behaviour so that they could live in harmony which is likely how shakespeare"s audience viewed her. Bianca instead of her which would make her a troubled individual that just needs love and support.
