Hillary is depicted in a way that mirrors the reader because she enjoys the suspense she gets from the scary situation in the house the way readers do as they are reading the story. The short story describes hillary"s desire to seek the thrill that comes with being frightened through the language being used in hillary"s conversations as well as the narrator"s descriptions of her. The narrator mentions that she liked scary stuff usually which is evidence that she is drawn towards frightening situations and accepts the challenges they may cause (82).
