Biological theories of addiction: the biological components of try bio/psycho/social model are the anatomical, structural and molecular substrates of the disease such as the suds and the effects of that disorder on the biological functioning of the individual. It was first suggested that alcoholism was a disease 260 years ago. Addiction to alcohol progression: pre alcoholic stage, marked by individuals use of alcohol to self-medicate social tension, frustration and anxiety. During the phase they begun to demonstrate such alcohol related problems such as blackouts, guilt over their behaviour while drunk and urge to hide their drinking from others: with continued use they become physically dependant on alcohol use. There self esteem suffers, and activities were alcohol is not used is shunned over activities that do involve alcohol: finally, with continued alcohol use the individual enters the chronic stage of alcohol use. During this stage they will experience deteriorating morals, and use of alcohol substitutes.
