Research where the researchers deliberately do something with participants with the intention of causing a change. Among is there are experimental designs which include randomised and nonrandomised controlled trials. One group experiences a planned treatment while the other receives a pseudo treatment-placebo that resembles the real treatment but does not actually do anything. If the treatment is effective there will be an improvement or a larger improvement for the treatment group compared with no treatment, or an alternative genuine treatment, or a placebo. Experimental designs used in clinical trials are summarised using pico (used in experiments): In os there is no deliberate treatments, the events happen naturally and the researchers observe what happens passively. Some os designs are: descriptive research: describing and optionally comparing the characteristics or responses of a sample, diagnostic accuracy studies procedure can identify the presence or absence of health condition in a sample.
