Document Summary

There are two broad categories or types of sampling design in research: probability (permit generalization) and non-probability sampling (target research on indi cases) Sampling methods: simple random sampling (srs) every participant has an equal chance of selection. There are several methods of selecting a random sample from the sampling frame, such as using a statistical software package or random number tables. Population put on a large list with each indi numbered and numbers selected randomly. Better when sampling frame exists otherwise can be expensive: systematic random sampling- participants are taken from a list. If there is a pattern in pop certain objects may be chosen more or less often thus there is bias. Ensure adequate sample size for subgroups in the pop of interest. Time consuming: cluster random sampling-when pop is divided into a cluster and then you randomly take from the cluster. Less efficient as you need a larger sample.
