This should be followed by a brief review of the published literature, to show what research has already been carried out in the area, and highlight the gap that the paper will fill. This part of the paper should also include any limitations or weaknesses of the study identified by the researchers (ie small sample size) The major aspects you need to consider when reading an original research paper are: the sample/participants. Did they receive special care: the setting. Where did the study take place: how data is collected. Did it have ethical clearance: how it is analysed. The most important and useful review is a systematic review in ebp.
