BUSI2025 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Eye Contact, Ethnocentrism, Cultural Intelligence
Document Summary
Culture is a system of values, beliefs and practices that are shared among a group of people, which give a sense of belonging and uniqueness. Ed shein (1985) identified three levels: artefact level outward displays, value level norms about what ought to be, underlying set of assumptions unspoken and unseen norms. You can buy anything in your own language but you need to sell things in their language. The same happens with culture: to the extent that you desperately need the business you must modify your style. Professionals need a communication strategy that is appropriate for each task and each specific culture they do business with. Appropriate communication with international business partners should not be left to intuition (cid:862)tip of the i(cid:272)e(cid:271)erg(cid:863) culture.
