15. What is the statistical power of STUDY A? (Bonus: How many additional subjects would be required to reach a minimum power of 0.80 for this study?)
16. What is the statistical power of STUDY B? (Bonus: How many additional subjects would be required to reach a minimum power of 0.80 for this study?)
17. Based of this comparison of STUDY A and STUDY B, which type of experimental design would you prefer for testing the memory effects of IGF2?
Consider the following two studies, STUDY A and STUDY B:
STUDY A is a clinical trial investigating the effect of a new drug, IGF2, on memory performance. The experimenters make a study with the before-after design. For each subject, memory scores were measured before administering IGF2 and then again after. There was a total of 10 subjects in the study. The data is shown below.
STUDY B is also a clinical trial investigating the effect of a new drug, IGF2, on memory performance. In this study, the experimenters divide the subjects into two groups, one receiving IGF2 and the other receiving an inert placebo. For each subject, memory scores were measured only once. There was a total of 10 subiects in the study. The data is shown below:
