1) Determine factored flexural resistance of the simply supported beam () shown below for two lateral support conditions: a & b. Then compare the results with values obtained from the steel handbook beam table provided in Page 12 . The beam section is W840x176 of grade ASTM A992 steel ( = 345 MPa). Assume the deflection is satisfactory (Dimensions are in mm). (30 marks)
a) The lateral supports are provided along the top flange of the beam by steel deck welded to the top flange.
b) The lateral supports are provided only on both flanges at the two supports.
