Background and context
S.pombe also called the fission yeast, is characterised by its rod-shaped structure. The cell grows and divides into 2 equal daughter cells. Hence, they have a highly polarized growth pattern, most growth occurs within the G2 phase and their entry to mitosis is mainly regulated by the cell size and growth.
