Background and context

In skeletal muscle, actin thin filaments and myosin II thick filaments assemble to make contractile structures. Nonmuscle cells also contain several types of contractile bundles, which are similar to skeletal muscle fibers but are much less organized. Also, they don't have the troponin regulatory system and are regulated by myosin phosphorylation.
