We know that, when oxidation and reduction reaction takes place simultaneously in a chemical reaction, they are called redox reactions. There are two electrodes i.e. cathode where reduction occurs and the other one is anode where oxidation occurs.

When reduction occurs, there is a decrease in the oxidation number of the species.
