Given information

Determine whether or not metal dissolves in .For those metals that do dissolve, write a balanced redox reaction showing what happens when the metal dissolves.

Step-by-step explanation

Step 1.

Let us check if will dissolve in .

So this is a reaction between a metal and an acid. This reaction will happen if this metal or gold is more reactive than hydrogen,so that it can replace the hydrogen from the acids. For that let us check the metal reactivity series.Metal reactivity series is a series in which metals and hydrogen are arranged in the order of decreasing reactivity from top to bottom.

If the metal is lying above hydrogen in the metal reactivity series, then it can replace hydrogen form acids and this reaction will happen. If it is lying below hydrogen in this series then the metal cannot replace hydrogen form acids and thus this reaction wont happen.

So it depends on the reactivity of the metal.
