Given information

A compass shows effects when it comes in contact with a magnetic field.

In this given question it is expected the determine the effects on the compass if it comes in contact with current-carrying wires in household.

Step-by-step explanation

Step 1.

When the current-carrying wires in the household come in contact with the compass it will show some changes. Generally, the standard value of the current in the household circuit is around 20 Ampere. When the compass is placed near the wire it will get affected only if the current flowing is a direct current.   The current flowing within the wire can affect the compass but it is dependant on the orientation of the wire, the magnitude of the current, direction of the current, and distance between compass and wire.

The compass will show the deflection of the needle in direct current as the current moves in one direction. The deflection will reduce if we increase the distance between the compass and current-carrying wire.
