The arrangement of the H bonded atoms in the alpha helix has a strong effect on the overall dipole moment of the alpha helix.
A) Since these are the main contributors, what is the direction of the dipole in the alpha helix?
B) Why could Glu or Asp amino acid at the N terminus stabilize the alpha helix structure?
C) Is there any amino acids that you could put at the C-terminus to help stabilize the structure?
D) Pepetide bonds also have a dipole moment. Why don't they contribute to the alpha helix dipole along the direction of its long axis?
