1. Define: (a) weighing by difference, and (b) absolute weight. What is the difference between these? Which is commonly used in analysis and why?
2. After having dried a solid sample in a weighing bottle, it was placed on the pan of an analytical balance while still warm (~ 40o C). The operator could not obtain a steady balance reading (i.e. the weight appeared to drift). Why? In which direction was the drift?
