AN 3505 Lecture Notes - Erving Goffman, Infant Mortality
Document Summary
If i heard a friend speak about racial differences in infant mortality and began to question. Week four reflection if a biological factor is present, there are few ways i could correct my friend and share my knowledge. The truth is this racial difference is a health inequity rooted in social factors. To explain this fact, i can provide sources such as from what i have learned from this week"s materials. To correct my friend, i can explain the timeline of how black women have been treated in this country. A few examples include police brutality and the stigma on how black women feel pain. There is lots of evidence of how medical professionals don"t respond to black women"s concerns appropriately. This can lead to mothers in labor not getting the appropriate treatment in enough time to save their unborn child"s life.
