Immediate drying: timely cord clamping, early skin-to-skin contact, early initiation of breastfeeding. Newborn care until the 1st week of life i. Ensure that delivery are is draft-free & between 25-28 c using a room thermometer. Time band : at perineal bulging, w/ presenting part visible (2nd stage of labor) intervention. Use a clean, dry cloth to thoroughly dry the baby by wiping the eyes, face, head, front & back arms & legs. Do a quick check of newborn"s breathing while drying. During the 1st 30 seconds: o do not ventilate unless the baby is floppy/limp & not breathing o do not suction unless the mouth/nose are blocked w/ secretions or other material. Time band : if after 30 secs of thorough drying, newborn is not breathing or is grasping. Intervention : re-position, suction and ventilate action : Inform the mother that the newborn has difficulty breathing and that you will help the baby to breathe.
