NURSING Lecture Notes - Mae, Standard Anatomical Position, Cell Nucleus
Document Summary
Anatomy- the study of body structure, size, shape and composition. Physiology- the study of how the body functions. Chemicals- make up all matter both living and non- living. Inorganic- simple molecules made up of 1 or 2 elements. Example: water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, iron, calcium, sodium. Organs- group of tissues precisely arranged so as to accomplish specific functions. Language of anatomy- refers to terms of location & position, major body cavities & their membranes, areas of abdomen, planes & sections. Anatomical position- standing upright, facing forward, arm at sides with palms forward & feet slightly apart. Dorsal cavity- lined with meninges: cranial cavity- brain. Positive feedback mechanism- body"s response does not stop or reverse the stimulus, but instead keeps the sequence of events going: vertebral canal/spinal cavity- spinal. Ventral cavity- separated by diaphragm: thoracic cavity- lungs & heart. Pleural membranes line the chest wall & cover feedback mechanism- body"s response.
