Suprasternal notch: u-shaped depression above sternum, between the clavicles. Sternum or breastbone: 3parts: manubrium, body, xiphoid process, manubriosternal angle: angle of louis is continuous with the second(2nd) rib and helps to localize respiratory findings. Is also the site of the tracheal bifurcation of the right and left main bronchi. Costal angle: 90 degrees and is the right and left costal margin that forms an angle that meets at the xiphoid. Midsternal line }midclavicular line }anterior axillary line (anterior chest) Anterior axillary line }posterior axillary line }midaxillary line (lateral chest) Apex - highest point of lung tissue is 3 or 4 cm above the inner third of the clavicles. T10 usually corresponds to the base deep inspiration expands the lungs, and their lower border drops to the level of t12. Mediastinum: contains esophagus, trachea, heart, great vessels. Location of trachea and bronchi: dead space. Lobes of the lungs: anterior, posterior, lateral, pleurae.
