The function of a fuel spray nozzle is to admit fuel to the cylinders at the proper time, in the proper quantity, and in properly atomized from to make ignition easy. It must operate under high pressures, break up or atomize the fuel for ignition, act quickly, and withstand high temperatures. It is a very complicated valve and the successful operation of the engine is dependent upon it. In a fraction of a second depending upon the density of the fuel oil and the size and the speed of the engine. The use of compressed air which forces a definite amount of fuel, mixed with the air into the cylinder.
