HHP 1110 Lecture Notes - Stratum Granulosum, Stratum Corneum, Stratum Basale
Document Summary
The integumentary system: structural organization ch 5 a integumentary system overview. Integumentary system: skin & its accessory structures. Forms a physical barrier btwn external environment & internal body. Protects against trauma, solar radiation, chemical absorption. Deepest layer, adipose tissue epidermis tissue characteristics. Stratum basale: youngest cells, deepest layer of epidermis. Come lets get sun burnt thick vs. thin skin. Hemangioma: proliferation of blood vessels that form a benign tumor. Friction ridges: (fingerprints) folds of the epidermis & dermis on the fingers, palms, soles, toes, etc. Identification effects of friction on the epidermis. Callus: a thickening of the epidermis from friction occurring consistently overtime. Blister: separation of the epidermis from the dermis by a fluid filled pocket due to short term, but severe friction dermis. Superficial region of the dermis deep to the epidermis. Dermal papillae & epidermal ridges interlock, increasing surface area btwn epidermis & dermis reticular layer. Deeper region that forms the majority of the dermis.
