Document Summary

Consenting is a choice you make without pressure, manipulation or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Reversible- anyone can change their mind about what they feel like doing, anytime. Informed- you can only consent to something if you have the full story. Enthusiastic- when it comes to sex, you should only do stuff you want to do, not things that you feel like you are expected to do. As young children we get really mixed messages on what consent is (ex: must hug uncle ___) Silence- it has(cid:374)"t (cid:271)ee(cid:374) dis(cid:272)ussed (cid:448)ery (cid:373)u(cid:272)h. We as a society are not comfortable talking about sex. Some people might not want to raise the issue of consent because they are afraid of rejection. Some people are concerned that talking about consent might encourage young people to be sexually active. Consent challenges rigid gender roles and helps equalize sexual power. Some people still have a strong double standard when it comes to sex.
