The big incorporation amendment - extends the bill of rights to violation of state governments. Says that you can"t abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens but doesn"t say anything about non-citizens. Midway through - wording changes from citizens to persons . There are federal laws saying you can"t not give a person a green card based on religion. Also federal laws saying you can"t ban immigrants based on religion. Things you are being protected against - i. e. limitations on your behavior by government. 1st: freedom of religion, press, assembly, speech, petition government. Bill of rights were created under the assumption that the federal govt would impose of individual rights; however, for the most part, this assumption was wrong. State govts are much more likely to impose on individual rights than federal govt. Barron owns a wharf in the city of baltimore. Baltimore redirects the water and makes the water around barron"s wharf too shallow.
