BIOL 2200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Gastrulation, Blastocoel, Blastula
Document Summary
Proteins specialized for cell-cell adhesion and communication. Nerves and muscles set animals apart from plants and fungi. All animals are multicellular, but some fungi can be unicellular. Two haploid gametes produced by meiosis to form a diploid zygote. Gastrulation = process where one end of the embryo begins to fold into itself. Opening at the bottom of the embryo is the blastopore. Bilateral = fold something in half on one axis, either side would be the same. Radial = consistent structure throughout their beings. Coelom = body cavity that supports organs. Pseudocoelomates = have just a space instead of a coelom. Determinate = cells have a purpose as soon as they are formed. Cells divide on top of one another. Indeterminate = cells can become anything if separated from the rest of the body. Coelom is forming near the top due to folding in. Collar cells are found in animals, but never in fungi, plants, and other protists.
