Fungi and ecology: decomposers, endophytes: when fungi live inside plant cells. Can benefit plants by providing defenses and increase stress tolerance. Fungus-farming ants eat fungus, but also provide food for the fungus. Lichens grow on rocks; plant provides structural support and fungus provide nutrients: parasites. Cause billions of dollars in crop loss. Fungi and humans: negative interactions fungal infections, fungi consumption, yeast, fungus makes chocolate edible, benefits antibiotics. Plants: closest relatives are charophytes (green algae, general overlap between plants and all algae: Chloroplasts with chlorophyll a and b: overlap between plants and charophytes: Moving from water to land: why move, undisprupted sunlight, more carbon dioxide on land, new habitat, lots of nutrients in soil, low competition. Adaptations for land: prevent water loss.
