Roman republics: mithridates vi - - king of pontus. Makes ploy and seizes galatia and cappadocia. Complaint is made to rome in regards to his bullying . Mithridates is ordered to leave galatia and cappadocia. Senate sends deputy, manlius aquilius to asia. Pontus is sacked by nicamedes and manlius. Mithridates takes it back, kills manlius and orders massacre in asia. Senate decides mithridates must be defeated and asia reconquered. Sulla is consul: marius wants to regain political ground he lost after 100 bce never mind he is 70 years old. Gets support from tribune marius is chosen for command over sulla. Army raised under sulla is looking to him. Marius sends military tribunes out to this army, and the army murders them. Sulla meets his forces personally and leads them against the city of rome. They become hostes making them enemies of the state and they flee.
