Norms are in place in occurrence of cultural shock,but you do not know the norms; in the occurrence of anomie, norms are broken down. Provides multiple cultural scripts to choose = we get more options. Fewer cultural scripts in society that demand conformity. People doing things different > clash of values, norms and understandings. How much personal space people require and what"s the norm. Micro factors affecting meaning we assign to behavior and situation. Meanings derive from our direct and indirect interaction with other people. Macro factors affecting the meaning we assign to behavior and situations. Impression management - we try to come off a particular way in a situation.
