Was not originally made to be a brand, was built to accomplish a social mission to make the world more open and connected. Zuckerberg has changed this mission statement two or three times over the years. Human capital knowledge you accumulate over time that you can use to be successful. A measure of our relationships, connections to other people. It"s not what you know, it"s who you know . Sense of belonging, diversity, networks, feelings of trust and safety, reciprocity, participation, citizen power/proactivity, values/norms/outlook on life. We don"t bowl alone (based on book by robert putnam) because it"s weird, it"s a group activity. There has been a decline in social capital (involvement in public life, communal life, neighborliness) Erodes a greater sense of community and participation in civic/public life (meeting, voting, giving, trusting, visiting) When social capital declines we care less, we give less, we consume less news and information, we spend less time with our friends.
