Spirituality is the awareness of one"s inner self and a sense of connection to a higher being, to nature, or to some purpose greater than oneself. It can have different meaning for different people. Nurse"s need to care for a whole person. We do this by accepting a patient"s beliefs and experiences. Physical and psychological well-being results from beliefs and expectations. Beliefs and convictions are powerful resources for healing. Spirituality encompasses all this in a person: connectedness, transcendence and self-transcendence faith and hope inner strength and peace, meaning purpose in life. Current concepts in spiritual health spirituality: complex, unique to the individual spiritual well-being: an interconnectedness between god or a higher power and other people. Faith: several definitions: it allows people to have a firm belief despite lack of physical evidence. Religion: a specific system of practice associated with a denomination, sect, or from of worship. Hope: gives an individual a motivation and the resources to achieve.
