Brief overview each respiratory effort 500 ml air (6-8 l/min) During inspiration lungs will expand, during expiration, it will recoil back. Acid base balance: co2 +h2o h2co3 h+ + hco3- Phonation: how you make sound; air passes through the vocal cord. Pulmonary defense: cilia expel dust and prevent entry of microorganisms.
