N 224 Lecture 4: Thorax and Lungs Notes
Document Summary
Trachea to lungs = lower respiratory tract. Breaks into 3 in the right side bc 3 lobes. Breaks into 2 on left side bc 2 lobes suppose someone aspirates something, it is likely to dislodge in the right side bc it is more narrow and a little more thick. Heart is located in mediastinum apex = top of lung. Note the fissures that divide the lobes. The respiratory system to get accurate data, the nurse must assess right middle lobe anteriorly. Look at the right middle lobe, it is located mostly anteriorly due to anatomical location. Need to know the anatomical location of lobes. Brief overview each respiratory effort 500 ml air (6-8 l/min) During inspiration lungs will expand, during expiration, it will recoil back. Acid base balance: co2 +h2o h2co3 h+ + hco3- Phonation: how you make sound; air passes through the vocal cord. Pulmonary defense: cilia expel dust and prevent entry of microorganisms.
