The aztec empire 1430 ad, mexica were indigenous people that came from the north, no ones knows from where or why. Theory is that they came from the gran chichimec: oral tradition states they came from azlan, a region full of sands and a river. It"s believed they entered what today is mexico city at around 1000 ad. Mexico city was already inhabited by many kingdoms and cities saying they came from the gran chichimec. By 1430, after 400 years in the valley of mexico, mexica makes an alliance: mexica and the triple alliance (mexico, tepanecas. a colnua) They created a confederacy of states, known as the aztec empire. The political structure of the aztec empire would be that the mexica would always be the head of the empire, but the mexica would inter-marry with other groups. They conquered the valley of mexico, but retained their kingdoms.
