In california, most people who came were investors because the land was valuable. They came to purchase property to either build ranches or sell. In texas, most of the people were commoners who were given chance to pay off their debt by moving to texas: heads of colony = empresarios, mexican constitution 1824. States can abolish slavery: delegates voted this into constitution. This had happened before but now they were an actual state. It was done strategically because immigration in texas was growing very heavily and mexican population wasn"t growing there. By appending them then the mexican in coahuila would rule the government in texas. Texas is pissed because they had immigrated and now they were being told they could not have slaves. Only about 2000 slaves had brought in but texans were still mad. When slavery is abolished, the white people begin disputes.
