Continued new mexico 1598: mostly white elite, like mestizo, are moving. Relations with the pueblo were destabilized by rich white spaniards, because they wanted the indians to do free labor. Pueblo revolt in 1680 pueblos relate with apache to get rid of the. 1821 there are 4,443 colonists and 10,664 pueblo indians. Those retreating spaniards moved to el paso / juarez. Some also moved to contillo and downtown el paso. Still a lot of tension between the spanish and the pueblo indians. In 1692, there is an alliance and the main rule is that the spanish agreed they would not establish haciendas, so all growth with be done by small scale farming. They also agreed that the pueblo and spanish would protect each other. Pueblo also wanted less scrutiny of their ceremonies, and less pressure from the church.
