Language differences can lead to corresponding differences in how people remember -and perhaps how they perceive- position. Language also differs in how they describe events. Active-voice sentences english name the agent of the action, even if the action was accidental. Passive-voice sentences don"t mention the agent for an accidental event spanish or japanese. After viewing videos of accidental events, japanese and spanish speakers are less likely than english speakers to remember the person who triggered the accident. Language has a direct impact on cognition. Categories recognized by your language become the categories used in your thought. Once your language has led you to think in certain ways, you will forever think in those ways. The language you hear guides what you pay attention to, and what you pay attention to shapes your thinking. The influence is indirect the influence works via the mechanisms of attention. Other factors can also guide your attention.
