Document Summary

K -- legal shorthand (legal slang) for contract. Sideman - musicians who play with the artist (in studio or live) but not literally signed to artist"s contract (paid per gig , salary, per hour) Baby artist - new artist (opposite of superstar) Masters - 1) studio sound recording (what label duplicates) 2) in slang, = the sound recording (what a label owns, per law) Royalty - amount due someone per unit sold (nearly a synonym: rate) Label - slang: record company (old days: name old company on the physical label) Distributor - the company that actually distributes the product (not same as label!) Artist (one person? whole band?) may only record for that company, exclusively (during term) Record company (by default) automatically owns all recordings made by the artist during term of contract. Even recordings made in artist"s basement, that label is unaware of literally all recording during active term.
