Close reading project = you can choose what to write about as long as we have read it in class. 3-4 page paper = about meaning of the story, pick a literary term and make an argu- ment about what that does for the text. Do not: list examples throughout the paper and do not summarize outside of the intro- duction. Conclusion: opens up and add points instead of closing off the conversation. Thesis: has to be a statement that you can argue for. You do not want the response of so what? after reading your thesis. Examples of good and bad thesis statements are on sakai. These should be questions, ideas or connections that come to you while read- ing. They are examples that you engaged with the text as you read it.
