Close reading project = you can choose what to write about as long as we have read it in class. 3-4 page paper = about meaning of the story, pick a literary term and make an argu- ment about what that does for the text. Do not: list examples throughout the paper and do not summarize outside of the intro- duction. Conclusion: opens up and add points instead of closing off the conversation. Thesis: has to be a statement that you can argue for. You do not want the response of so what? after reading your thesis. Examples of good and bad thesis statements are on sakai. If a short story print out the whole short story. High light/underline examples that illustrate the different literary terms. These should be questions, ideas or connections that come to you while read- ing. They are examples that you engaged with the text as you read it.
