Stable things last longer than unstable things (i. e. if you go away and come back, you are more likely to see the stable things) One kind of stability is making copies (versus just being impervious to the ravages of time) Replicators are things that persist by making copies of themselves (basically all you need to know, all the specifics mentioned in dawkins are not as important) Replicators that are most accurate and make copies fastest will persist the most. Inevitably errors will persist, causing changes to the shape that can influence replication rate. Competition: replicators are using same resources to replicate themselves, creating rivalry. Means some replicators will be persisting at the expense of other replicators. Genes live forever (by making copies of themselves) Cells: vehicle of dna replicator (where it lives) Organisms (whether single or multi celled) are ephemeral homes for genes.
