Spermatogenesis: the process by which sperm are formed. Controlled by 2 hormones fsh (follicle stimulating hormone) and icsh (interstitial cell stimulating hormone). Oogenesis: the process by which eggs or ovum are formed. Graffian follicle: the chosen ovum in ovulation. Oogonia: primary oocyte: undergo miosis to create 2 structures, secondary oocyte + : will continue to develop, only if fertilization occurs, into the ovum, polar body: sloughed off as waste. Process of egg and sperm joining in the outer third of fallopian tube. Egg is released and capable of being fertilized for 12-24 hours. Outer layers of egg become trophoblastic cells: secrete enzymes that can eat through cells; secretes epf (early pregnancy factor) which is detectable 24-48 hours after fertilization. Blastocyst eats hole in endometrium and buries itself to be able to access maternal capillaries. Usually occurs high in the uterus 7-10 days after ovulation.
