To stimulate respirations, skin to skin or rub baby with towel/blanket. If not kept warm, baby must use glycogen storage to stay warm- can use all of glycogen storage within 2-6 hours. Broad observation (even chest expansion, evidence of trauma, lack of semmetry in movement or facial expression, obvious congenital anomalies, baby void/stool, palpate fontanelles, evaluate vessels in the cord) Eye care: required by law to prevent opthalmia neonatorium (gonorrheal infection of the eye). Can delay medication for up to 1 hour after birth.
