o Developmental psych
▪ Study of change across the lifespan
• From birth to death
▪ Majority deals with ages of birth to 12 years old
• Age where rapid changes occur
o Conception
• Developmental Theories—Attachment
o Attachment
▪ Special bond formed with caregiver early in life
▪ Create working models
• Basis for all future relationships
• fro the radle to the grave
o can change with constant reinforcement
• Unconscious expectations
▪ Examined by looking at separation anxiety
• Strange situation procedure
o 4 types of infant attachment
▪ securely attachment
• calm, know parent will come back
▪ insecure-avoidant attachment
• no response to leaving or return
▪ insecure-anxious attachment
• upset when caregiver leaves
• ambivalent when returns
▪ disorganized attachment (added later)
• inconsistent behavior and confused
o Erikson offers 8 major crises
o Developmental Theories—Erikson
▪ Childhood
• Trust vs. Mistrust (0-1): will others fulfill my needs or am I on my
own?
• Autonomy vs. Doubt (1-2): Do I have self control? Am I in charge
of my life?
• Initiative vs. guilt (3-5): Should I make decisions on my own or
listen to others?
• Industry vs. Inferiority (6-12): Do I have unique abilities and skills?
