For the first half of the course we will examine the early history of the u. s. and the themes of. American culture that have their roots in this period, and then for the second half of the course we will examine more recent history and contemporary themes of american culture. All this will be filtered through the anthropological lens and key concepts of the discipline. Your culminating semester project, your three minute message, gives you the opportunity to showcase a single theme that you think significantly ties together sociohistorical (first part of the class) and more contemporary (second part of the class) american culture. At the end of this lesson you should be able to: Identify the perspective from which this course was designed.
