Overview of key players and music style differentiating. *look at the drums to differentiate between the two, not the tempo. Key players & tricks to pick them out: Chet baker: no piano in his group setting, became influential vocalist. Modern jazz quartet: vibraphone is a dead giveaway, classy group, played concert halls, european influences. Art pepper: more of an alto player than a tenor player, the tenor was more common. Gil evans: birth of cool album, people would come to his house and have jam sessions. Stan kenton: not talking about him as a musician for this class, but as a writer and composer. Fun fact: brown was in 3 major accidents, one when he was younger, one put him in a full body cast, and the last one killed him.
