Basking in relected glory: the tendency for people to take pride in the accomplishments of those with whom they are in some way associated, as when fans idenify with a winning team. 363 trick-or-treaters were asked to take only one piece of candy. They would ask children their names and to describe themselves. In one condiion: a woman told the children to take only one piece of candy. In another: a mirror was placed conspicuously so children could see themselves if they reached into the bowl. No mirror and no warning to take only one piece of candy from the bowl, 75% took more. Male paricipants were led to believe either that they were going to succeed or that they were going to have diiculty on a test they were schedule to take. Paricipants were then given the chance to ingest one of two drugs: irst would enhance their test performance; the second would impair it.
