Document Summary
Unconditional reflex food (unconditioned stimulus) causes salivation (unconditioned reflex) ring bell give food, dog salivates. Soon later ring bell, they would automatically salivate realized that dog learned to associate bell with food. Aspect of environment that you learn to respond to because it has been associated with an unconditioned stimulus- food. Salivating the response reliably evoked by conditioned stimulus. Connecting something new with old new relationship. New stimulus response connection we created by associating bell with salivation. Not all members of species have it. Three things necessary for classical conditioning initially neutral stimulus conditioned stimulus- bells. Stimulus that reliably elicits a response- food unconditioned stimulus. Contiguity- nearness in time and space of conditioned stimulus and unconditioned stimulus. Generalization tendency to apply what you have learned to new similar situations feeling sick around a certain food because of past experience. Discrimination tendency to distinguish between a new situation and the original situation. More complex than salivating to a tone.
