Document Summary

Heterotroph- must eat food, organic molecules from environment to sustain life. Autotroph - make organic molecules from inorganic sources. Photoautotroph- use light as source of energy. Co2 + h2o + light energy c6h12o6 + o2. Energy from light drive this endergonic reaction. Oxygen = terminal electron acceptor put in chp 7 notes. Nadph different than respiration because p for photosynthesis. Carbon fixation - taking inorganic carbon through the calvin cycle to create glucose and carbohydrates. Organelles in plants and algae carry out photosynthesis. Majority of photosynthesis occurs in the mesophyll region of the leaf. Stomata- carbon dioxide enters and oxygen exits leaf. Outer, inner, and thylakoid membrane- form thylakoids. Stroma- fluid filled region between thylakoid and inner membrane. Uses atp and nadph to incorporate co2 into organic molecules. Nadp+ nadph need 1 hydrogen ion and 2 electrons. Gamma, x rays, uv, visible, infrared, microwaves, radio waves. Absorption spectrum- wavelengths that are absorbed by different pigments in the plant.
