Non-nuclear inheritance: inheriting things other than what comes from the nucleus, examples: mitochondria and plastids & organelles come from female gamete. Dna: a chemical component that is the genetic material, blueprint for life , they found a dye that could stain dna to make it more visible to them. They found that this dye stained the dna specifically in the nucleus. This proves that dna is in the nucleus. They found that the dna is twice as much in somatic cells compared to gametes. Fredrick griffith 1920: was trying to treat pneumonia, found that the bacteria he worked with had a transforming principle. **2 types of bacteria in this experiment: s [virulent- deadly , r [non-virulent- not deadly ] Found virulence by injecting into mice to see if they die or not. He mixes the heat killed virulent bacteria with living non-virulent-if you inject this into the mouse, the mouse will die.
