Lecture 12, 10/31: from gay liberation to biseaxual community & beyond. There are people who resist a fixed definition of bisexuality because it takes away the idea of queer being an umbrella term. One of the major ideas is that sexuality is not a thing that is separate from other things. An on-going, unfolding, and exists only in interactions. Once the idea of sexual people were established the categories themselves changed as social relations changed. 1973 - 74: homosexuality was demedicalized (cid:1543) can lead to the disappearance of bisexuality. Seidman describes this as an ironic effect of the closet . Meaning that one"s sexuality isn"t the core part of a person"s identity.
