Chapter 6: things are not what they seem. Know the diference between individualisic and sociological interpretaion for each of the following: i love you, not voing, poverty, men"s violence. By going beneath the surface, sociology reveals a deeper and more complex reality. Johnson calls our atenion to issues that are much more clearly understood when we use a sociological perspecive, rather than individualisic. The fact that we treated certain words as acions is socially constructed. Meaning of these words varies with the roles of those who are saying it. Structure of a relaionship might be changed when it is said. The system will determine whether or not it is raional to vote via paths of least resistance. We don"t not vote because we aren"t good ciizens. We feel that our vote doesn"t have any weight. Paths of least resistance that encourage not voing in the u. s: challenges in registering, winner-take-all results, the two-party system, gerrymandering.
