What is personality psychology: consistencies in people"s thoughts, feelings and behavior (triad) over time and across situations. Assume personality has some consistency across time and situations, however there are situational constraints. What is interesting is that there can often be conflict among these three components. Video: nyc man had seizure on subway and another man held him down between tracks and subway and kids watched as subway cleared him by half an inch. Why do people do what they do: personality psych- internal, dispositional explanations. Clinical psychology- extreme manifestations of personality behavior--- overlap between clinical and personality psych. Developmental psychology- how personality develops and changes with time. Personality psychologists focus on different types of traits not a quantitative amount of personality. Personality definitions: every human being is in certain respects- like all others (human nature) like some others (individual and group differences)
